Message from Mayor Isoo Sasaki

Natori, a small city with a population of 73,000, is now suffering in the aftermath of the Earthquake. 10,000 people evacuated just after the earthquake, and over 6000 people are still sheltered in the evacuation centers.

Our port Yuriage, a home for 2550 households and 7100 residents, is devastated by the massive tsunami. In the area from 2-chome to 7-chome, all buildings, houses and shops were washed away. 1-chome is covered with a huge heap of rubble. Even today, we are unable to check the entire situation of the missing people and the damage in the city.

Sendai International Airport, the biggest in Tohoku area and located in Natori city, is also badly damaged. Industry and tourism are facing a serious situation.

For the recovery of the city, we will need the financial aid to cover the cost estimated as big as tens of years of annual budget of our city. The impact of this disaster is too huge to expect solely the Japanese government and Miyagi prefecture to finance.

Your kind donation for the recovery efforts of the city and the people who lost their homes will be highly appreciated.
